we are students of 5^ class from G.Guttuso school, the second building of 3° Circolo Bagheria.
We have made some pictures about Christmas.

Christmas in Ireland (Ireland)

In Ireland Santa comes on Christmas Eve and leaves presents for the Children.

The Children hang their socks at the end of their beds or on the fireplace on Christmas Eve and Santa puts presents in them.

At Christmas we hang Holly Wreaths on our Front Doors.

We put a Christmas Tree in our homes and decorate it with lights and tinsel.

We eat Turkey and Ham for our Dinner on Christmas Day. We also eat Cake, Pudding and Mince Pies.

Everyone puts a crib in their homes and there is a large one in the church.

Carols are sung in all the Churches at Christmas and the school has a concert of Christmas Carols and a Nativity Play

Christmas Time (Italy)

We are a twenty students from the Primary school in Bagheria, we are 3rd class, we are eight year old.
As it is tradition we were making "Presepe"in our school and in our home too.
Usually it consist of figurines, in clay or plaster, of the infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph. An ox and ass are nearby because legend has it that they warmed the child with their breath. It is around this basic focal point that individual artisans create their own intricate landscapes. There may be grottoes, small trees, lakes, rivers, the lights of "Bethlehem" in the background, angels hung from wires,
Natale, the Italian word for Christmas, is the translation for "birthday." Who was born? Jesus of course!
We have made a particular "presepe" with fruit juice's bottle (it is the body of figurines)

Another one was making with a particular "sky" there are a lot of stars which bring our words of peace and love

St. LUCY’S DAY in Sicily (Italy)

She is the patron saint of vision, as well as the patron saint of the city of her birth, Syracuse. In Italian, the word 'lucia' means light.

The legend tells that many years ago in Sicily there was long time of caresty. People were hungry and they had not flour and bread.
The 13th of December (saint Lucy’s Day) arrived to the Palermo’s harbour a big boat, it brought rise, grain and chickpeas. The hungry people went on the boat and took the rise and the grain and boiled and eat them , without grinding the grain in flour. They were rescued!!
So in Sicily , since that day it is tradition no to eat bread and pasta in St Lucy’s day but only rise and grain.
We usually cook and eat in this day the "Arancine" they are bals of rise fool of meat and another particular food we use to make is the Cuccia,

it is a sweet made with grain ricotta(kind of cottage cheese), sugar and candied fruit.
All the mothers in the neighborhood made cuccia, each in her own unique way. Some were sweeter, some had chocolate, some had citron, some had both.

We are a twenty-five students class from the “Escola Básica 2, 3 Dr. Carlos Pinto Ferreira” located in Junqueira, a very small rural town near Vila do Conde, in the northwest part of our country. Our class has eighteen boys and seven girls.
Almost all people keep together since the fist form – so we consider ourselves as “old friends”.
We always have something to talk about, so we consider ourselves noisy but cheerful persons.
We were born, most of us, in Junqueira. The nearest famous town is Oporto, internationally famous because of “Port wine” and also because of “Futebol Clube do Porto”, its football team which became well-known for having won the UEFA Cup, the Champions’ League Cup and the International Cup.
We like our school and we are very happy to be involved in the Comenius project “What a Wonderful Window”.
We have working projects about the culture and the civilization of our town and region. Soon we shall give you news about them.
We salute and send our best wishes to all those who are involved in “What a Wonderful Window” in Estonia, in Ireland, in Norway and in Turkey.
